Filming is already underway on Mike Colter’s Luke Cage standalone series, and now some casting news is starting to trickle out about Marvel’s third Netflix project.

The studio has announced that Emmy and three-time Golden Globe nominee Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Brothers & Sisters) will play Soledad Temple in a supporting role in Luke Cage. If the character's name sounds vaguely familiar, there’s a good reason — Soledad is the mother to Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), who played a major role in Daredevil and had a major cameo in Jessica Jones.

Looking back to the comics, there’s not a ton of info about Claire’s mother to draw from, so it’s interesting to hear Marvel has cast a fairly well-known actress in this role. It also seems like a very good confirmation that Dawson’s Claire will have a solid supporting role in Luke Cage. If we’re meeting her mother, it stands to reason they’ll be around for a few episodes.

Of course, in the comics, Claire becomes a love interest for Luke Cage — so it’ll be interesting to see if they follow that route here by beefing up the character’s role. Throw Jessica Jones in the mix, and we could have a little love triangle developing in the Hell’s Kitchen corner of the MCU.

Marvel's Luke Cage series will be available to stream on Netflix in 2016.
