Marvel is getting ready to launch a new Spider-Man animated series later this year, and it could be mining a few interesting comic arcs for inspiration.
Marvel Animation Vice President Steve Wacker told Comic Book Resources that the new series, simply titled Marvel's Spider-Man, will eventually take a crack at telling the 2011 Spider Island storyline from the comics, which found the people of Manhattan imbued with Spidey powers.
Along with that story, he said he would also like to tell a version of Superior Spider-Man, which had Doc Ock taking over Peter Parker's body and serving as a different kind of Spider-Man.
Here's an excerpt from his comments:
"Another story we have coming up on the Spidey side … we'll get to Spider Island at some point. That was a big Spider-Man story in publishing … The big one for me would be Superior Spider-Man … That was the last big story I worked on in the comics side with Dan Slott. I'm not quite sure how we get there, but I'd love to see it."
These make for some of the first details to trickle out about the new animated flagship, which is set to replace the recently concluded Ultimate Spider-Man series. Along with Peter Parker, the show will also feature Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen in unknown capacities.
Marvel's Spider-Man is set to premiere in July on Disney XD.
