It’s quietly become one of the most enduring spy-fi action franchises, and now Matt Damon is retuning to the character he made famous. Jason Bourne is back.
The first full trailer for the latest Bourne Identity sequel, simply titled Jason Bourne this time around, has arrived. The footage sets up the story, which finds Bourne apparently remembering everything and getting drawn out of the shadows for a Snowden-level hack (cue Julia Stiles’ return) that could blow the lid off the mysterious program that programmed him in the first place.
Not surprisingly, the action looks fantastic. We get some classic hand-to-hand fights, as well as what looks to be a positively epic car chase scene featuring an armored truck. Plus all the twists and turns fans have come to expect. As for Damon, it’s hard to believe it's been 14 years since he first played this character. Sure, he looks a bit more grizzled and rough around the edges — but Damon is still unmistakably Jason Bourne.
The film is directed by Paul Greengrass, who helmed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. Along with Damon, the film will also feature Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones.
Jason Bourne opens July 29.
