Everyone’s favorite occult detective and demonologist John Constantine is about to become a permanent fixture on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow — but there’s a tiny catch.

According to Deadline, Matt Ryan will join the crew of the Waverider as a series regular next season if The CW picks up the time-travel superhero series for a fourth season. Although the network has yet to officially announce renewals for any of its Arrowverse series, the return of Legends of Tomorrow — as well as that of Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and new-kid-on-the-block Black Lightning — is likely a given, so fans can likely breathe easy.

Constantine will be taking a seat alongside Wally West/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), who recently joined the crew of the Waverider as series regular.

Ryan first originated the role of the DC fan-favorite character on NBC’s short-lived Constantine TV series, which aired between 2014 and 2015. He then made his Arrowverse debut in Arrow’s Season 4 episode “Haunted,” which was originally meant to be a one-off. The character proved so popular with the fans that the powers-that-be brought Constantine back for the first of three appearances on Legends of Tomorrow, kicking off with Episode 308, “Daddy Darhkest” (aka the one where Constantine hooks up with Caity Lotz’s Sara Lance). This will be followed by tonight’s installment, “Necromancing the Stone,” and the Season 3 finale airing on April 9, which will also feature the return of Jonah Hex (Johnathon Schaech).

Besides nabbing a permanent spot on Legends of Tomorrow for Season 4 (again, if the show gets picked up), Ryan will also reprise the role in animated form on CW Seed’s Constantine, slated to premiere on March 24. What do you think of John Constantine coming on board Legends of Tomorrow as series regular of Season 4?
