Matt Smith’s tenure as a Time Lord is coming to an end soon, but the Eleventh Doctor has offered us a tantalizing peek at his final farewell.
With filming set to start this weekend on the series’ annual Christmas special, the official Doctor Who Twitter account released a photo of Smith at the read-through, posing with a copy of the script that will feature his demise and regeneration.
The spoiler-free title: “Christmas Special 2013, by Steven Moffat.” He wouldn’t make it that easy for us, would he? Check out the pic above, and make note of Smith’s extremely short hair.
Yeah, Moffat noticed, too, so it seems the actor will be wearing a wig as he bids adieu to Doctor Who. Smith confirmed as much in a recent on-air interview, noting he can’t stand the wig:
"I [cut my hair] for a film, but it means I have to wear a wig in Doctor Who, which is a nightmare. I'm excited - I start shooting the Christmas special [on] Sunday. It'll be sad - the end of a wonderful era!"
Lucky for us, we don’t have to wait until Christmas for more Doctor Who. The 50th-anniversary special is set to air Saturday, Nov. 23, on BBC One, which will mark Smith’s next-to-last episode.
Are you looking forward to seeing Peter Capaldi take over the TARDIS?
