May 10: This day in sci-fi history: Helloooo Nurse!

It's National Nurses Week.

And so we'd like to honor nurses everywhere for being generally spectacular people ... and prime the pump of commenting with a list of five of our favorite science fiction and fantasy nurses.

We chose human ones because, well, robot nurses ... we're just not comfortable with the idea yet. Plus we know that at some point it will be Robotic Nurses Week and we'll likely have to make a separate list.

Here is (again, by no means exhaustive and likely to leave off someone obvious) today's weird list:

Madame Pomfrey (Harry Potter)

Simultaneously the nicest and most intense nurse you'll ever find, Madame Pomfrey is the nurse you hoped for in elementary school. And she has thermometer skills like crazy.

Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes)

Broody, handsome and has the ability to mimic the powers of other people. Also knows his way around a sphygmomanometer.

Nurse Christine Chapel (Star Trek)

Gorgeous, shared a voice with a lot of the ship's computers, and was Gene Roddenberry's real-life wife. What’s not to love?

Rory Williams (Dr. Who)

A lover, a fighter, a guy who loved Amy Pond more than you can possibly imagine. And knows exactly the right procedure for triage.

Claire Temple (Daredevil)

It's Rosario Dawson being amazing. And nursing up a storm. Bandages and all.

Tomorrow: A Rod Serling Field Day!
