On this day in 1977, Star Wars premiered. We've got it covered.

Some other things also happened on this day in Sci-Fi history.

First of all, Alien premiered on this day in 1979. Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt. John Hurt, all the … everyone. It's the Alien movie that nobody can quite recapture the magic of. It does everything it's supposed to do. Just watch it again some night.

Today also has a few pretty heavy-hitting sci-fi fantasy birthdays. Ian McKellen was born on this day in 1939. That's Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White, the Magneto Who's Not Michael Fassbender.

Also, Frank Oz was born on this day in 1944. Without him you'd have no Yoda or pretty much any other Muppets. Oz also directed Little Shop of Horrors and In & Out and What About Bob?

Finally. Anne Heche was born on this day in 1969. Volcano, you guys.

Tomorrow: Helena Bonham Carter meets Dracula.
