To be fair, Patrick Dempsey does have lots of experience playing a handsome, talented surgeon with occasional delusions of grandeur. But does he have what it takes to fill the cloak of Earth's Sorcerer Supreme? He'd like to find out.

Despite seven seasons of being one of the higher-paid actors on television, Dempsey is looking to stretch a bit and, as he told the L.A. Times, some of his extended Grey's family have been dropping some magical recommendations:

"There's a whole bunch of people [among the Grey's crew] who are into comics and Marvel, too, on the set and they're like, 'Doctor Strange, that's the one you should do.' It would be fantastic. It'd be a great TV show, especially for HBO or something like that."

Dempsey admits that he's been a little typecast as the smoldery doctor guy for a little too long, and he took a running-and-jumping role in this summer's Transformers: Dark of the Moon to, in large part, shake that image. But is he the right guy for the job?
