LEGO sets have given big, juicy hints at upcoming blockbusters before, but a new one that seems to tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of Infinity War's release is perhaps the most lighthearted and obsessive. There have already been a plethora of Easter eggs in the lead-up to Marvel’s next blockbuster team-up, but this one hints at something bigger: the Marvel TV shows.
While you can see the costume and weaponry hints for yourself by examining the minifigs, the reference making waves in the comicdom community is one to Matt Murdock’s Daredevil. As Instagram user the_marvelous_guy found in a high-def close-up, the newspaper stand by Doctor Strange’s 177A Bleecker St. Sanctum Sanctorum has a headline and image referencing a familiar face.
Look for yourself:
That’s definitely the New York Bulletin and it’s definitely reporting on the club-wielding, red-suited Daredevil. “CRIME FLOODS THE STREETS” is quite a headline and it’s just sensational enough to blur the line between LEGO’s silly sense of humor (which is found in everything from its toy sets to its video games) and the real MCU.
Naturally, it's spurred quick, unfounded speculation on whether a TV universe crossover in Infinity War, and with a revitalized Defenders group, might not be too far-fetched. Marvel, however, has long maintained a separation between the two, so it's wishful thinking to hope that a detail likely put in as a geeky wink by a LEGO designer could mean anything more than just that.
Still, it would be fun for Matt Murdock, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Danny Rand to at least pop up for a brief cameo. After all, Infinity War will supposedly feature more than 70 Marvel characters, according to Chris Hemsworth. What's a few more Defenders?
Avengers: Infinity War premieres on May 4.
