Sony's released a behind-the-scenes featurette from next month's RoboCop. It introduces us to the man inside the suit, Joel Kinnaman, also known as Alex Murphy. The role was most notably played by Peter Weller in the 1987 and 1990 films. Kinnaman has big shoes to fill, but the actor wants to make his own mark with the character.
In the following video, the cast and crew talk about the revamped RoboCop. Kinnaman describes Alex as being a very efficient cop. That means even without the suit, he's a force to be reckoned with. But still, RoboCop is a different kind of animal. He's in a league of his own.
"After I got this part I completely nerded out on robots," Kinnaman exclaimed. "I'm always on YouTube looking for new stuff. It's quite spooky but it's fascinating ... they have me working with these Navy SEALs, [plus] gun training, tactical training also driving these incredible motorcyles."
We think the greatest compliment Kinnaman could get came from co-star Gary Oldman. The veteran actor plays Dr. Dennet Norton, and he describes Kinnaman as "a really absolutely diamond guy." It's "one of the most enjoyable relationships on a set I've had in years." That's high praise. But don't let that fool you, Kinnaman stresses that RoboCop is dangerous. "You don't want to mess with him."
