With the series set to debut in just over a month, the ranks are starting to swell for Joss Whedon’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The ABC series has added English actor Ian Hart (Bates Motel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) to the team. He will play a scientist in a recurring capacity, though Marvel is keeping specific character details under wraps.

Entertainment Weekly broke the story, noting that the addition fits in with the series’ stated goal of keeping the Marvel universe as “grounded” as possible, looking toward scientific explanations for all those fantastical abilities.

It’s also another step toward making the S.H.I.E.L.D. operation, as it will be portrayed on the series, a tangible day-to-day group that exists outside of the high-stakes operations we’ve seen in The Avengers and the rest of the lot.

Just looking at the timetable, we’d have to think Hart’s character might pop up in the early-middle of season one. But, when you’re talking about Whedon, there’s no telling what the mad genius is cooking up.

Do you think Hart will make a good addition to the team?
