Meet the 'oracle' who could be a game changer in Fringe's final eps

With a risky jump into the future, the new season of Fox's Fringe is already blowing up the formula for the final year. Now it seems they could be taking a Matrix-y twist sometime soon.

Grammy-winning poet, songwriter and actress Jill Scott has signed on for a guest role that has been described as "an incredibly intuitive woman, an oracle-like person."

Hmm, we're definitely curious to see why and how this "oracle" plays into the grand scheme of things, though we can't help but be reminded of Neo's fated visit to the Oracle in The Matrix, where he learned the ins and outs of being unplugged.

As for how and why an "oracle" would exist in the Fringe future? We have no idea. But we have met some mysterious characters in the past with oracle-like skills (i.e., Olivia's recurring bowling buddy Sam Weiss, played by Kevin Corrigan), so it's not crazy to think a character could pop up in a similar capacity.

Here's hoping this move isn't just a plot device, or shortcut, to get us to wherever showrunner J.H. Wyman wants us to go in the next 12 episodes.

What do you think of the move?
