The 1974 horror spoof Young Frankenstein is one of the greatest works in Mel Brooks’ repertoire, and now the author is opening up the history books to tell the whole story behind the cult hit.
A.V. Club reports Brooks is teaming up with Hachette Books to release Young Frankenstein: A Mel Brooks Book, which goes behind the scenes of the Oscar-nominated classic. The book will be co-authored by Rebecca Keegan and feature a foreword written by Judd Apatow. The project aims to be the “definitive behind-the-scenes story of the movie.” Along with Brooks’ expertise, the book will also feature interviews with stars such as Cloris Leachman, director of photography Gerald Hirschfield and producer Michael Gruskoff.
More than 40 years later, Young Frankenstein remains a classic and a stalwart on “Best Of” lists far and wide. It’s also been selected for preservation in the Library of Congress National Film Registry. There's no denying Brooks managed to tap into true magic.
Young Frankenstein is hilarious and fantastically bizarre, and getting the full story from Brooks should certainly be well worth the wait.
