The Heroes in a Half Shell are beginning to come together.

One month after announcing that Megan Fox would join his Ninja Turtles flick, Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman have cast the first of the four turtles. The character is Raphael, and the actor is up-and-comer Alan Ritchson. The 28-year-old's past credits include three seasons on the Spike comedy series Blue Mountain State and a role as one of the ruthless tributes in the forthcoming Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. But if you're a Smallville fan, you might be more familiar with him for this:

Yeah, he was Aquaman.

So after making a name for himself on TV and scoring a supporting role in what's certain to be a major blockbuster, Ritchson's now landed himself one of the leads in a Michael Bay production. It's definitely a big moment for him, but what do you think? Fox's casting in the flick wasn't exactly met with resounding Internet applause, but what about Ritchson? Will he work as Raphael?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to hit theaters in May 2014.
