Michael Bay overload forces studio to delay Ninja Turtles release (again)

Paramount Pictures has its hands full with Michael Bay movies. The director is behind two of its most anticipated releases of 2014: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers 4. They're goldmines for merchandising, and the studio wants to spread the wealth.

Ninja Turtles was scheduled to open June 6, 2014 (previously Dec. 25, 2013, and May 2014), but it's now been moved to Aug. 8. Why? It looks like Paramount's afraid of the films canceling each other out. Or at least stealing some of each other's thunder. Transformers 4 is set for June 27 but is expected to be bumped up to June 25.

The revised August release date will give Transformers and Ninja Turtles much-needed breathing room. They'll already have enough competition from other studios, they don't need it from each other. For example, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (Aug. 1) hits theaters one week before Ninja Turtles. Guardians could easily dominate the box office if fans are in its favor. But Paramount obviously thinks the Turtles can take them.

Which film are you the most excited to see?
