We were already looking forward to The LEGO Movie’s upcoming spinoff starring Will Arnett’s version of Batman, but now they’ve turned the project into a legit Arrested Development reunion.  Well played, Warner Bros. Well played.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Cera has signed on to voice Robin in the film, where he’ll be reunited with Arrested Development co-star Arnett. The spinoff project is being produced by LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and directed by that film’s animation supervisor Chris McKay. The script is being written by Seth Grahame-Smith. Though Grahame-Smith is a bit of a wild card, they’ve kept much of the creative team in place for the spinoff — so that’s a very good sign.

As for the project itself, Arnett’s Batman was easily the breakout star of The LEGO Movie. He had most of the best one-liners, and if there was any character begging for a spinoff, this was it. Cera should be a solid addition, and his style is the perfect fit for the type of Robin you’d imagine LEGO Batman would be working with.

Now all we need is a worthy sequel to “Untitled Self-Portrait.”
