One of the screen's most indestructible serial killers is coming back for another round.

Dimension Films has announced that Michael Myers will pick up the nearest available weapon again and do his thing in Halloween Returns, the first new movie in the franchise in six years.

The last two, a 2007 reboot/remake of the original 1978 film by John Carpenter and 2009's Halloween II, were both adapted, written and directed by Rob Zombie. Writing the script this time around are Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, whose credits include the last four Saw movies, three Feast films, Piranha 3DD, The Collector and The Collection, the last two of which Dunstan also directed. He's set to get behind the camera for Halloween Returns as well.

There's no word yet on a cast, and the storyline is being kept under wraps, although Moviehole (via Slashfilm) reported this as the rumored plot:

The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter. Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.

We don't know if the new film will be a direct sequel to Zombie's two entries or will refocus on the original incarnation of Myers for its 11th overall outing. One thing that's rather odd is that title: Did the actual holiday Halloween go away without anyone knowing about it? The Return of Michael Myers was already the subtitle for 1988's Halloween 4, so perhaps that's why they're going with this awkward new name instead?

Well, a name is just a name, and hopefully Halloween Returns will improve on Zombie's rather dire entries. Are you looking forward to a new slew of kills with Michael Myers, or should he be sent to the serial killer retirement home once and for all?
