Michael Shannon KNEELS before Terence Stamp's General Zod

Superman II is arguably one of the best superhero movies ever made, and it's not just because of the late, great Christopher Reeve as Superman. It also had Terence Stamp, who played General Zod. Michael Shannon is about to take on the role of Zod for the upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel. And he's not going to be doing it Stamp's way.

According to The Playlist, Shannon will be playing the Kandorian general differently than Stamp did:

"I found [Stamp's] performance so powerful that I would be overwhelmed by it if I tried to incorporate it into what I'm doing. There's no reason to try and replicate it cos it's perfect the way it is. I'm just trying to go down a different road with it, the script's a little bit different than the original script. It's going to have a different look and feel to it, visually. I'm looking forward to really settling into it, and playing with it."

His performance would have to be different: Stamp is the master of sneering contempt; Shannon, however, excels at playing characters whose sanity is barely in control. (YouTube has many fine clips of him shrieking and/or glowering.) Will his Zod be less in control, more crazed? Or will he play it Kelvin-cold?

We're looking forward to seeing exactly which brand of evil Shannon will be bringing to the table in Man of Steel.
