Unlike Lost, dead isn't dead in the Resident Evil universe. Zombies walk around freely, and in Resident Evil: Retribution they come back to life. And Michelle Rodriguez—who appeared in the original 2002 film—is back, reprising her role as Rain Ocampo in the sequel.
Paul W.S. Anderson is pulling out all the stops for Resident Evil 5. We were previously told that franchise heroine Alice will return with Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), James "One" Shade (Colin Salmon), Luther West (Boris Kodjoe) and the evil Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts). Now it's being reported the Michelle Rodriguez will also revisit her RE brethren.
In the original Resident Evil [*spoiler alert*], Rain Ocampo was a gun-toting member of One's task force who unfortunately got infected with the zombie-turning virus. At the end of the first film she went from being undead to really dead when Matt Addison (Eric Mabius) shot her in the head at point-blank range.
With all of these returning characters, we assume there will be a lot of flashbacks throughout the new film. That's the only logical reason they'd have to revisit these characters.
Filming of Resident Evil: Retribition is set to take place in Toronto, Japan and Russia. The film opens in theaters everywhere Sept. 14, 2012.
What do you think the new story will entail? What purpose could Rain Ocampo serve?
