Microsoft’s X018 event was held in Mexico City this weekend. The event is meant to be “a global celebration of all things Xbox” and there were certainly a few announcements from the company that Xbox gamers won’t want to miss.
According to Polygon, Microsoft Studios is acquiring Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment. Both of these developers are well-known for creating role-playing video games. Obsidian has created Pillars of Eternity, Fallout: New Vegas, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords while inXile is behind Bard’s Tale IV and Wasteland 2. In a statement, Microsoft said these developers bring “expertise on the PC platform and a unique RPG focus to the table” so it looks like some interesting RPGs might be coming in the future.
While fans have to wait and see what those acquisitions mean exactly, they were able to get a look at some upcoming game highlights thanks to new trailers. The highly-anticipated Kingdom Hearts III received a trailer showing Winnie the Pooh as well as Xehanort and Organization XIII. A cinematic trailer for Just Cause 4 debuted ahead of its December release and brand new game Void Bastards was announced. The game comes from Blue Manchu and the director of BioShock and System Shock 2 Jonathan Chey. It's apparently a strategy shooter that has a comic book-like design.
If you like cats, pandas, and Minecraft, don't worry. There was something for you too.
Gamers might also be happy to hear there are more games coming to Xbox Game Pass and additional titles are being added to Xbox One Backward Compatible. Plus support for mouse and keyboard will soon arrive on Xbox One.
You can get all the details of the announcements from X018 on Xbox’s website.
