Fans of Charlaine Harris’ True Blood (R.I.P. Nelsan Ellis) will be able to get their supernatural fix when Midnight, Texas, debuts on July 24. Ahead of the show’s premiere, NBC has released a new first-look video.
Created by Niels Arden Oplev (Mr. Robot) and written and executive-produced by Monica Owusu-Breen (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), the new series is based on Harris’ trilogy of books and stars François Arnaud (The Borgias) as Manfred Bernardo, a psychic who can see and talk to dead people a la The Sixth Sense.
The denizens of the town of Midnight include a witch (played by Parisa Fitz-Henley), an angel (Jason Lewis), a mysterious assassin (Arielle Kebbel), local pawn shop owner (Dylan Bruce), a reverend (Yul Vazquez) who may or may not be a werewolf, a vampire (Peter Mensah) and an aspiring writer named Creek (Sarah Ramos).
Read up on the extended synopsis before digging into the new sneak peek for the upcoming supernatural series (as a huge fan of True Blood, I'll definitely check this one out):
Welcome to a place where being normal is really quite strange…
From Niels Arden Oplev, the visionary director of Mr. Robot, and based on the hit book series from Charlaine Harris, the author behind HBO’s True Blood, comes a journey into a remote Texas town where no one is who they seem. From vampires and witches to psychics and hit men, Midnight is a mysterious safe haven for those who are different. As the town members fight off outside pressures from rowdy biker gangs, ever-suspicious cops, and their own dangerous pasts, they band together and form a strong and unlikely family.
Midnight, Texas stars François Arnaud (The Borgias) as Manfred, a charming, powerful psychic who can communicate with spirits and finds safety in Midnight surrounding himself with both human and supernatural allies. Midnight is also home to Bobo, proprietor of the local pawn shop (Dylan Bruce, Orphan Black); Fiji, a witch who owns the local wiccan shop (Parisa Fitz-Henley, Luke Cage); Olivia, a mysterious assassin with a weapon for every occasion (Arielle Kebbel, The Vampire Diaries); Joe, an angel who knows all of Midnight’s secrets, having been around for millennia (Jason Lewis, Sex and the City); Lemuel, a wise vampire with a long history in Midnight (Peter Mensah, True Blood); Creek, an aspiring writer with big dreams (Sarah Ramos, Parenthood); and Rev. Emilio Sheehan, who can’t resist the pull of a full moon (Yul Vazquez, Captain Phillips).
