Earlier this year, Guillermo del Toro took to the web and told fans that, despite years of trying, he would never be making Hellboy 3. It was a body blow to a lot of fans who'd been holding out hope for a third film starring Ron Perlman as the lovable demon, but it made sense. Hellboy II just wasn't the hit the studio needed it to be, and the fire for the franchise had died down.

That news didn't mean Hellboy would never return to the movies, though, and now we have confirmation that he will rise again in a new form.

Monday night, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola anounced on his Facebook page that an R-rated reboot film is in the works from director Neil Marshall (The Descent), with David Harbour (Stranger Things) set to star as the title character. The Hollywood Reporter then confirmed the news.

According to THR, Marhsall and Harbour are both "in talks" to join the project, indicating deals may not be final at this point. The project seems pretty far along in the development process, though. The same report also gives us a working title of Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen (which is RAD), and news of a script by novelist and comics writer Christopher Golden (who's collaborated on Hellboy stories with Mignola in the past), Eureka co-creator and Boom! Studios co-founder Andrew Cosby, and Mignola himself.

Del Toro and Perlman are, unfortunately, not involved, but the creative team that is onboard is stellar. Marshall is a fantastic director, the writers all have a strong connection to the way Hellboy and his world work, and Harbour has both the physical power and the sense of humor to bring Hellboy's paranormal adventures to the screen. It's not clear yet when we might see the film (Millennium is in negotiations to produce, but there's no word on a distributor or release date), but for the first time in years, Hellboy seems to have found a new life on the big screen again.

What do you think? Are Harbour and Marshall the right team to bring us a new Hellboy?
