After a well-deserved vacation from comics following his superb work on Hellboy in Hell, Mike Mignola is charging back into the medium he loves with a new vampire graphic novel from Dark Horse titled Mr. Higgins Comes Home. The non-Hellboy horror yarn is written by Mignola and matched with art from Warwick Johnson-Cadwell (Helena Crash). Described as an homage to old-fashioned vampire stories, it features a pair of Nosferatu hunters convincing titular Mr. Higgins to return to the scene of his wife’s unfortunate death, and face the dark mysteries behind his harrowing experiences at the dreaded Castle Golga.
“I’d been a fan of Warwick’s work for a very long time,” Mignola told io9. “I met him recently, discovered he had a fondness for sad werewolves, and that got the ball rolling for Mr. Higgins. This one is a very affectionate (and obvious) nod to the old Hammer Dracula films and my favorite vampire film of them all, Roman Polanski’s The Fearless Vampire Killers.”

Mr. Higgins Comes Home strikes comic shops on October 25, with a full bookstore release set for the most appropriate date of October 31.
