There have been a whole lot of Hellboy comics over the past two decades — and though the main series is over — there are still a few stories left to tell.

Dark Horse has announced plans for a five-issue series titled The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed, which will find Hellboy creator Mike Mignola teaming up with iZombie co-creator Chris Roberson and Jack Staff creator Paul Grist to dig into the mysterious aliens who played a part in the early days of Hellboy’s arrival on Earth. The story follows an alien assassin stranded on Earth for more than 50 years and how he comes to understand humanity.

“In Hellboy: Seed of Destruction, readers were given a brief glimpse of a crew of strange looking aliens monitoring the supernatural doings on Earth from way out in space. We later learned that one of those aliens had been sent to Earth to kill him in 1944, but chose to spare him at the last moment,” Roberson said via Bleeding Cool. “In The Visitor, we explore who those aliens are, why that assassin was sent to kill Hellboy, and just what he was doing in all of the years in between.”

Before The Visitor arrives on Feb. 22, 2017, the series will be teased in a story from Hellboy: Winter Special on Jan. 25, 2017. So also be on the lookout for that.

Are you looking forward to checking this one out next year? Is this a Hellboy story you’ve been waiting to see told?
