A mere four decades after Mickey received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, now Minnie Mouse is getting a star of her very own.
January just got more magical, because Minnie Mouse is finally getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this month. On January 22, Minnie will receive the 2,627th star on the historic stretch of Hollywood Boulevard in honor of her 90 years of entertaining billions of people. Disney CEO Bob Iger and singer Katy Perry will be on hand to celebrate the momentous occasion right outside of Disney’s El Capitan Theatre, where Minnie's star, given in the Motion Pictures category, will be located.
Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies Ana Martinez said this about the exciting news.
“Minnie Mouse is a woman of the ages, and her iconic status makes her a great addition to our Walk of Fame! Generations of fans of all ages have been looking forward to her seeing her bright new star.”
And I think we can all agree that this moment is long overdue. Minnie's pal Mickey Mouse received his star way back in 1978 — 50 years after the pair first appeared in Steamboat Willie and officially became the most famous mice in the world. Minnie will join several other Disney characters, like Winnie the Pooh, Donald Duck, and Snow White, who have all previously been honored with a star. So why the heck did it take so long for Minnie to get her moment in the spotlight? Was she just too busy being a Happy Helper to return the call?
Regardless, it seems in this case they really did save the best for last. Congrats, Minnie!
