BBC America has released a new trailer, one-minute clip, as well as a batch of glorious pics from the next episode of Doctor Who.

Titled “Extremis,” the Doctor’s next adventure will take the now-blind Time Lord and his companions Bill (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas) to the Vatican, where, in the Haereticum (the secret library of blasphemy), there’s “an ancient book known only as The Veritas. Throughout history, anyone who has ever read it has immediately taken their own life.”

Hmmm that sounds really intriguing. Also, the irony that the Doctor’s next adventure is taking place in a gigantic library (which looks an awful lot like the library in the Season 4 two-parter "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead") while he's completely blind is not lost on me, and I'm sure his blindness will play a significant role in solving the mystery.

‘The Veritas. The truth. Truth so true you can’t live with it. Is that looking into hell ... or seeing the light?’ Everyone who has ever read the Veritas has been found dead. In a forbidden library at the heart of the Vatican, the Pope urges the Doctor to read the ancient text – but can he handle the truth?

While the BBC’s Next Time trailer revealed the return of Missy (Michelle Gomez, who just confirmed she will be leaving Doctor Who) in the final seconds of the promo, BBC America has opted to take her out of the picture entirely, although one of the pics confirm her return.

I’ve included both versions.

Dig into the promos, clip and images in the gallery below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to “Extremis.”
