With the premiere less than a week away, Netflix has dropped a new trailer for the first season of Luke Cage — and that man is out to clean up the streets one ricocheted bullet at a time.
The supporting cast gets a bit more of the limelight here, as we see Misty Knight (Simone Missick) looking into Luke (Mike Colter) in the wake of a drive-by shooting that leaves the future Hero For Hire’s shirt riddled with bullet holes … though the man himself is no worse for the wear. We also get more of Luke’s faceoff with Cornell Stokes/Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali), as we see Luke tearing down his street-level empire brick by brick. Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) also pops up for a pep talk.
Oh, and there’s also the pitch-perfect hip-hop soundtrack to tie it all together — which is on full display in the scenes here. Having seen the first seven episodes, it’s awe-inspiring how they’ve managed to weave the music into the fabric of the series itself (like Guardians of the Galaxy, but not) in such a natural way. It gives it that gritty, street-level feel and makes this world feel like it’s truly alive. It still feels Daredevil adjacent, sure, but this definitely ain’t Hell’s Kitchen.
The full first season of Luke Cage hits Netflix on Sept. 30.
