San Diego Comic-Con is more than just the panels, sneak peeks, and celebrities in cosplay disguises. It's also about all the cool swag you can pick up, especially the exclusives that no one else can get their hands on unless they attend the con itself.
Now, we've already compiled a list of the coolest and best exclusives that are available this year, but as we get closer to SDCC 2018, more and more will be announced by the various companies and vendors that will be hawking their wares at the San Diego Convention Center.
One such outlet is Mondo, known for its graphic T-shirts, artistic prints, VHS releases, and vinyl pressings. In fact, the company will be selling a special limited-edition pressing of the Big Trouble in Little China soundtrack at Booth #435. But that's not all. Mondo has provided SYFY WIRE with an exclusive look at three more of its SDCC 2018 offerings.
First up, we've got a retro poster for the 1970 film Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Serving as a direct sequel to 1968's Planet of the Apes, it was directed by Twilight Zone vet Ted Post and centered on yet another human astronaut (played by James Franciscus) who crash-lands on the simian-ruled planet. The film gets kinda weird when the space traveler, looking for Charlton Heston's character from the first film, discovers an underground city of humans with psychic powers.
The 24x36 screen print by artist Eric Powell will be available at the con for $50 a pop.
Next up is the Oscar-winning sci-fi fairy tale The Shape of Water. Guillermo del Toro's Cold War love story between a mute lab worker and a god-like fish man picked up four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Measuring in at 18x36, this screen print by Daniel Danger is a beautiful summation of the bond between the main character, Elisa (played by Sally Hawkins), and her water-dwelling soul mate (Doug Jones).
The poster depicts the movie theater situated right below Elisa's Baltimore apartment and floating right smack dab in the middle is our heroine and her ichthyoid lover. It's an eerie and atmospheric underwater tableau, capturing the very essence of del Toro's dark and hopeful fantasy.
Pick up your own copy for $60 at the con. A black and white variant edition for $80 will become available on Mondo's website around the same time as the regular version at SDCC.
And finally, for your Half-Life fans out there, Mondo's got a 1/6 scale Gordon Freeman Figure from Half-Life 2. Since he's the main character of the franchise, fans know him well. He's a theoretical physicist from Seattle, who must fight against an alien invasion after an experiment goes horribly wrong. Think of Stephen King's The Mist, but instead of holing up in a supermarket and cowering in terror, humanity takes a stand against the unknown beings trying to kill them. Freeman, once a man of science, becomes a prominent and badass member in the human race's stand against extinction.
While not for sale at SDCC 2018, this Freeman figure will be on display at Mondo's booth. It will become available for purchase at a later date on the company's website.
All these products will be available or on display at Mondo's booth #435.
