The first official teaser trailer and poster for TOHO’s new monster movie Godzilla: Resurgence have been released.

Featuring the iconic giant creature, the movie is slated for a 2016 release in Japan (as of yet, it's unknown whether the movie will see a mainstream release in North America) and will be TOHO’s first Godzilla film in more than a decade, since the release of Godzilla: Final Wars in 2004. As Comic Book points out, it means it’ll beat Universal and Legendary's own Godzilla film to the punch, since their take on the pop-culture icon is only set to hit theaters two years later, in 2018.

Godzilla: Resurgence is the 29th entry (hence the clever July 29 release date) in TOHO’s franchise and comes from directors Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (better known for his visual effects on the Gamera trilogy). Both will co-direct the movie from a screenplay by Anno.

Sadly, the teaser doesn’t let us see the King of the Monsters, only hear him. But you only need to look at the poster below for a good peek at the legendary creature. And at least we got the see the terrified population screaming and running for their lives in a mass of complete chaos, dizzying found-footage style. Such fun.

Starring Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi and Satomi Ishihara, Godzilla: Resurgence will hit movie theaters in Japan on July 29, 2016.
