If you’re bummed that Disney recently pulled the plug on TRON 3, you’re not alone. Luckily, several thousand fans are rallying to let Disney know there is still interest in the vintage sci-fi franchise.

After 2010’s TRON: Legacy underwhelmed at the box office, word on a potential sequel remained relatively mum until a few months ago, when news broke that Disney was planning to move forward with a followup that brought back Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde (among others) for a new adventure.

Well, at least until the turgid Tomorrowland opened to mediocre box-office numbers, which apparently made Disney think twice about taking a shot on another far-fetched (and expensive) sci-fi flick. Not to mention the fact that Disney’s release schedule is already loaded with sure-fire hits from Marvel and Star Wars. Luckily, not even the shot-callers at the Mouse House can deter fans with a dream to get back into The Grid.

One New York-based fan decided to kick off a petition asking Disney to put the project back into active development, and in just a few days the petition has collected 25,000 signatures (and counting). You've gotta love the democratizing power of the Internet.

Though TRON: Legacy was far from a masterpiece, it was still a fun bit of sci-fi filmmaking (with some insane visuals and an awesome soundtrack), and we’d still like to see a sequel at some point. Here’s hoping that if enough fans make their voices heard, Disney might just hear them.

If you’re interested, you can sign the petition right here. Do you want to see TRON 3 make it out of development hell?
