The presidential debates are happening, it’s hot as hell outside because the world is boiling itself, and people in the neighborhood are still setting off fireworks, a month after the Fourth of July.

Between that and bugs the size of dirigibles, the summer is wearing thin. Just look at all those comfy sweaters in the mall and piles of fuzzy blankets. If you try to use those now, you’ll be a puddle of sweat in a second. Of course, wishing the summer would just end makes you feel sad for your inner 10-year-old who looks forward to this all year. Don’t do that to yourself! Sit down in your air-conditioned house and relax with some video game trailers. We have a bunch this time around!

Here is the top Gamegrrl news for the week ending August 3.

This week we got the official gameplay trailer for Blair Witch, a video game based on the 1999 found-footage horror film that we were supposed to believe was real. You can check it out above.

“Turn off the lights. Put on the headphones. Prepare for the curse of the Black Hills Forest! Bloober Team and Lionsgate Games are proud to present the official gameplay from upcoming psychological horror game Blair Witch. Your darkest fears will awaken on Xbox One and PC on August 30th, 2019.

“It’s 1996. A young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods.

“From the creative minds behind the critically-acclaimed Layers of Fear, experience first-hand the toll that fear can take on the mind in an original story. Blair Witch is a first-person psychological horror game that studies your reactions to danger and stress. Your darkest fears will awaken.”

Was that not enough to freak you out? We also got a new story trailer for Control from 505 Games and Remedy Entertainment. It’s on the way for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on August 27. Here is the info for you:

“After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, players will take on the role of Jesse Faden, the new Director struggling to regain Control. This sandbox-style, gameplay-driven experience built on the proprietary Northlight engine challenges players to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments while fighting through the deep and mysterious worlds Remedy is known and loved for.”

Gearbox Software and 2K games released two character trailers for Borderlands 3 this week. One is for Zane, and the other for Moze and her giant Iron Bear Mech.

“The original shooter-looter returns, packing bazillions of guns and an all-new mayhem-fueled adventure. Blast your way through new worlds and enemies as one of four brand new Vault Hunters, each with deep skill trees, abilities, and customization. Play solo or join with friends to take on insane enemies, collect loads of loot and save your home from the most ruthless cult leaders in the galaxy.”

This week we also got a gameplay trailer for The Surge 2. Here is the info for you. “The Surge 2, the action-RPG sequel from Deck13 and Focus Home Interactive, brings uncompromising, limb-chopping, dynamic combat back to players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 24. In today’s trailer, witness new weapons, environments, enemies, colossal bosses, and moves that improve the formula. There are ever-more challenges to overcome, equipment to loot and upgrade, and threats to survive.

“As the nanomachine infestation eats Jericho City, new, horrific amalgamations of man and machine roam the streets as gangs, the government, and cultists war for control over the most valuable areas. Suit up and try to survive this chaos, and triumph, when The Surge 2 releases on September 24. The Surge 2 is available for pre-order now, launching September 24 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.”
