Production on the second season of Stephen King adaptation Mr. Mercedes is set to begin next month in Charleston, South Carolina, and the project has some new cast mates jumping onboard.
According to Deadline, Jack Huston (Ben-Hur, Boardwalk Empire) and Maximiliano Hernandez (S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Jasper Sitwell in the MCU) are joining the AT&T Television Network show that sees Detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) and murderer Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway) play a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
Huston will be playing Dr. Felix Babineau (Brady Hartsfield’s doctor), while Hernandez is said to be playing Assistant DA Antonio Montez. Meanwhile, the rest of the returning cast includes: Jharrel Jerome, Scott Lawrence, Breeda Wool, Justine Lupe, and Holland Taylor.
Jack Bender (Game of Thrones, Lost) is also reportedly returning to direct eight of the 10 episodes. In a press release (via DenofGeek) Bender said: “Mr. Mercedes is Stephen King writing about the monsters inside his characters rather than outside. We were extremely fortunate to attract an amazing cast, led by Brendan Gleeson and Harry Treadaway, to bring these flawed, complex colorful characters to life. With Sonar and AT&T, along with great scripts and our talented team in Charleston, I am thrilled to keep telling this story.”
Based on King’s Bill Hodges Trilogy, the series has been yet another successful adaptation for the author following the likes of his horror smash It, The Mist, and the Netflix adaptation of Gerald’s Game.
