For a while there, it looked like Universal’s Bermuda Triangle flick was lost in the, well, Bermuda Triangle — but now it’s finally back on track.

The project has attracted Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail to write and direct the Bermuda Triangle film, which had gone through previous drafts written by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, then Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. Neither of those scripts made it out of development, but the studio seems high on Esmail being able to get it right. Mr. Robot has been one of the biggest critical TV hits of the past few years, so he certainly brings some talent to the project.

The plot of the film has not been announced, aside from the obvious fact that it will be based on the famed Bermuda Triangle, an area of the Caribbean between the Florida Straits, Bermuda and Puerto Rico where ships and planes have gone missing for decades. Most theories skew into the sci-fi and supernatural, so it stands to reason this could definitely be a genre-tinged project.

What do you think? Would you like to see Esmail’s take on the Bermuda Triangle?
