We’re bringing you an exclusive look at The Mummy every Monday from now until June 5, and today it’s all about Sofia Boutella’s mummy, aka Ahmanet.

We have a new featurette featuring interviews with director Alex Kurtzman talking about the formula to make a successful Mummy movie, and the way they flipped the script by casting a female mummy with a deep backstory. We learn Ahmanet was once a princess who is supposed to be the next pharaoh, but all the is taken from her. So she has an evil ax to grind.

The production team and Boutella talks about how the characters starts as bones and rags, until she feeds and starts to become more of a person. Boutella said the action allowed her to push her limits with the role, and Kurtzman said he believes viewers will really connect with Ahmanet, and come to realize that she’s really the hero of her own story.

The Mummy opens June 9.
