Mystery Science Theater 3K gang getting ready to take on Sharknado ... live!

They might not be snarking at vintage sci-fi flicks on television anymore, but the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 gang is still working — and some of them are taking on the modern camp classic Sharknado next.

The MST3K alums, now working under the RiffTrax moniker, have hosted 10 live events already. Previously, they’ve taken aim at flicks such as Night of the Living Dead, Starship Troopers and Jack the Giant Slayer, but now the live show is setting its sights on the social media hit that lit up the Twitter-sphere last year.

Series hosts Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett will be performing live on July 10 at the State Theater in Minneapolis, where the series was created 25 years ago. But, just in case you can’t make it to Minneapolis, the performance will be beamed live via satellite to 700+ theaters across the U.S. and Canada.

Considering the utter wackiness of Sharknado, combined with the sharp wit of MST3K, this should make for one heck of a good show.

You can pick up tickets to the live performance on May 2, while simulcast tickets will be available on May 5. Head over to RiffTrax’s official website for more information on the live stream sites.

Do you think Sharknado is a good fit for the MST3K crew?
