Fans of a certain cult-fave videogame might have noticed a very familiar voice when the recent Pacific Rim trailer dropped last week. Turns out those fans were right.

Director Guillermo Del Toro is apparently a big fan of the awesome first-person game Portal. So much so that he signed the actor who brings the game's artificial intelligence GLaDOS to life for Pacific Rim—and he's even putting it through the same modulation so it will, literally, sound like GLaDOS.

Forbes talked to Del Toro and put all the pieces together, confirming that voice actor Ellen McLain is working on the project to match the voice. It's a pretty cool shout out to the beloved franchise, and it's nice to see Del Toro's love for easter eggs already starting to trickle out. Let's just hope it doesn't become distracting for fans of the game when they're watching the movie.

But anyone hoping for a Portal/Pacific Rim crossover is likely out of luck—the voice work is almost certainly just a little shout out, not any indication of some epic melding of the two very distinct universes. But hey, that would be pretty cool.

Did you catch the GLaDOS voice during the trailer?
