Looks like Firefly’s Nathan Fillion has scored another cool Guardians of the Galaxy cameo for director James Gunn’s eagerly anticipated comic-book movie. But instead of voicing a CGI character, this time Fillion will get to play a Marvel superhero. Sorta.
So, who will the fan-favorite actor play in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?
According to a report over at Comicbook.com, Fillion will play Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man.
In the Marvel comics, the character, created by Stan Lee and artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby back in 1964, was a former member of the Masters of Evil led by Baron Zemo. The brother of the villainous Grim Reaper, Wonder Man actually reformed and became part of the Avengers before retiring to become an actor. Dragged back into active duty despite having become a pacifist, Williams became a member of the Avengers Unity Division before giving his life defending the Earth from the Apocalypse Twins. In an alternate future, he even joined our biggest idiots in the galaxy as a team member.
As you’ll see in the gallery below (via Jonathan Hunter), Nathan Fillion’s face is on several mock movie posters at a local theater in Georgia, where Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is currently being filmed. The movie theater's marquee shows that there's a Simon Williams Film Festival taking place, and keen-eyed viewers will notice that one of the posters shows Fillion in a Steve Jobs-like pose for a biopic movie about everyone's favorite genius billionaire playboy philanthropist, Tony Stark.
Have a look:
Before everyone gets too excited, the likelihood that Fillion will actually play Simon Williams/Wonder Man in the movie is pretty small. But the idea that he's out there is very cool, don't you think? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will soar into movie theaters with a whole new mix tape on May 5, 2017.
