It might not get a whole lot of buzz, but SYFY’s 12 Monkeys has quietly become one of the most ambitious sci-fi shows on television. With the final season hitting this month, the network has dropped a new trailer showing off the long-awaited endgame.

The show may have started as an adaptation of the mind-bending sci-fi film, but it's expanded its mythology into a world all its own. This deeper look at Season 4 reveals some of the time periods we’ll get to see this year, plus a bit of the action that will be involved in bringing this saga to a close. 12 Monkeys has been telling a story about fate and free will, and as it leans deeper into a central riddle about the fate of time itself, the pressure is on for creator Terry Matalas to bring this sweeping tale to a close.

As for the footage, we get a peek at Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Cassie (Amanda Schull) in what appears to be the Wild West era, plus a fleeting look at some Nazis, a few car chases, and some fiery explosions. One of the most telling glimpses? A breaking medical vial, which almost certainly could hold the deadly virus that set off this whole time-travel adventure in the first place. It’s all coming full circle, in more ways than one.

Season 4 of 12 Monkeys premieres Friday, June 15, at 8/7c on SYFY. The season is set to roll out as a four-week event, with a block of episodes airing each Friday.
