NBC has ordered its sixth pilot of the season, Manifest, a new series being produced by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) and Jack Rapke (Real Steel).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is called Manifest and described as a "high-concept mystery thriller in which a plane disappears from radar and returns years later after being untraceable and presumed lost at sea." The show's pilot is written by Jeff Rake, who has previously worked with NBC on The Mysteries of Laura.
The story sounds a bit like Lost-meets-Beyond-meets-Flight of the Navigator -- as it will follow what happens to the plane's passengers after they return. Though time has not passed for those aboard, it has passed for their families. Family drama will be mixed with the mystery box story of what is really going on, all with an added pinch of destiny for flavor.
For the team of Zemeckis (who knows his way around a cockpit already, having directed Flight) and Rapke, this marks their second sale this pilot season, as their live-action re-imagining of The Jetsons has already found a home at ABC.
Does Manifest manifest any desires for you to watch it, or would you prefer that this particular story stay lost? Let us know in the comments!
