Producer and DJ Steve Aoki has fans buzzing about his first comic book after debuting some of the artwork on SYFY WIRE earlier this month. Now, audiences have a new trailer for Neon Future on the eve of the music-inflected comic's launch.
The book, which will incorporate elements from Aoki’s similarly-titled albums, is a collaboration between Aoki, Eisner-winning writer Jim Krueger, and Tom Bilyeu, founder of Impact Theory (who’s publishing the comic). The comic details a technophobic future where technology is outlawed — that is until a hero resembling Aoki steps in to preach the tech gospel.

This trailer teases plenty of X-Men-like story elements, like an underground movement of enhanced pariahs, along with a hero forced into exile by the attainment of superpowers. Some familiar territory to be sure, but with a talented crew behind it and musical elements that should make for a novel experience, this comic could prove interesting for fans of near-future dystopian fiction.
Impact Theory will release the first issue of Neon Future on Thursday, Oct. 4 at New York Comic Con before Aoki speaks on a musicians-turned-comic-creators panel.
