After more than a year of limited info on the streaming giant’s prequel plans for Jim Henson’s iconic 1982 original, Netflix has revealed the full voice cast for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, as well as a handful of first-look photos featuring Brea, Rian, and Deet — the trio of Gelflings we’ll be following on their new series adventure.
Anya Taylor-Joy (New Mutants) will voice Brea, Taron Egerton (Kingsman) will star as Rian, and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) is bringing life to Deet — but the list of talent behind the show’s additional Gelfling voices is just as impressive (Helena Bonham-Carter, Natalie Dormer, Toby Jones, Eddie Izzard, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander, to name but a few).
The lineup behind the malevolent Skeksis, as well as the Mystics, is no less impressive. While Netflix didn’t reveal which role (or roles) the rest of the voice cast will play, it’s an opulently star-studded list, including Mark Hamill, Keegan-Michael Key, Andy Samberg, Simon Pegg, Jason Isaacs, Ralph Ineson, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
Unfolding “many years,” per Netflix, before the events of the original film, Age of Resistance finds the world of Thra in peril after the Skeksis corrupt the Crystal of Truth, spreading “a sickness” throughout the world. “When three Gelflings uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins,” Netflix teases.
There’s still no word on premiere date for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, but we’re already digging out our old VHS copies of the original movie (OK, OK, we’re actually streaming it, since it’s available via iTunes and Amazon) — because it’s never too early to start shoring up on our Thra lore before Netflix takes us back for a new dive into the nostalgic past.
