Awesome news, Santa Clarita Diet fans! Netflix has renewed its dark comedy zombie series for a second season.

The announcement was made official via a teaser (I just wish I hadn't been eating when I saw it. Ha!) revealing the second season will return in all its hilarious gory glory sometime 2018. Season 1 debuted on Feb. 3, so I’m expecting Season 2 to be released around the same time next year. According to Deadline, the writers have already begun churning out stories and scripts for the show’s sophomore season.

If you haven’t seen the series yet, Santa Clarita Diet stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as husband and wife realtor duo Sheila and Joel Hammond, who lead “vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita until Sheila goes through a dramatic change that sends both their lives down a road of death and destruction … but in a good way.”

That dramatic change is, of course, that Sheila dies and becomes a zombie. Having seen the series, I really liked the fresh spin they put on the traditional zombie mythology. I can't wait to see where it goes from there.

Created by Victor Fresco (My Name is Earl, Better Off Ted), the 10-episode first season featured some über cool guest-starring stints by Patton Oswalt and Nathan Fillion. The series also stars Skyler Gisondo, Ricardo Chavira, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Richard T. Jones. Are you excited about Santa Clarita Diet returning for Season 2?
