A critical player in Sabrina Spellman's world has been cast for her upcoming Netflix debut, and it looks simply purrrrfect to us. The executive producer of the new adaptation of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina revealed Friday that the production has cast Salem Saberhagen — Sabrina's famous cat.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (who will executive-produce alongside Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti) tweeted the following image today, which features the cat that will join the Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina:

The original comics featured Salem as an ordinary cat who didn't speak, but that changed for the Sabrina the Teenage Witch sitcom, in which the cat's plans for world domination were audible and played mostly for laughs. The Salem of the comics underwent a retcon due to the sitcom's popularity, and has since evolved into a more serious character. As this new series is promising to be a darker take on the Sabrina mythos, that is likely the version we'll be seeing.

Though Salem's backstory has changed for different mediums over the years, it has become somewhat consistent that Salem is a human that has been doomed to spend eternity in the body of cat. Stories vary as to why this banishment occurred (most involve plans for world domination, some involve love), so we're curious as to what tale of the witch-in-a-cat's body the new show will be giving us.

The Netflix Sabrina project is still a little ways away, but in the meantime, are you pleased with the casting of this cat? Which version of Salem are you hoping the show will draw from? Meow to us in the comments!
