Netflix is heading back to the 1980s for its latest series Stranger Things, which evokes the vibe of a whole lot of Steven Spielberg material from a certain era.

The series is described as a “love letter” to the supernatural classics, and focuses on a young boy who basically vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl. The footage has a major E.T. vibe, but with some undertones of creepiness a la Poltergeist (probably all those darn kids).

The series stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton and Matthew Modine.

The first season of Stranger Things drops July 15.
