In a head-scratching move that can only be explained when realizing the extreme appetite for sci-fi fare and fierce competition between intellectual properties these days, Titan Books will be releasing Alien: Covenant 2, the official sequel to Alien: Covenant, on Sept. 23, following the theatrical release of Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant.
This 304-page mass-market paperback will obviously be exploring what happens after the events of the sci-fi film being unchained on May 19 ... events we're still in the dark about.
The tie-in sequel novelization will be published in the wake of Alan Dean Foster's primary novelization of the movie, titled Alien: Covenant - The Official Movie Novelization, which lands on May 23. No word on any plot points of this second legacy book, but it's difficult to imagine that it would follow the exact narrative of the next film, as that hasn't even been written yet, and might simply be a bridge between the first Covenant flick and the next ... or possibly even original material.
According to Titan, this mystery sequel book will also be written by the prolific pen of Foster, who also wrote the novelizations of the first three Alien films and the new Star Trek movies, as well as ghost-writing the novelization of the 1977 Star Wars film for George Lucas..
What's kinda funny is the forthcoming book's title: Alien: Covenant 2 - The Official Sequel To The Blockbuster Film. What if the highly-anticipated film is terrible and tanks? Not that it's very likely, but it seems a bit presumptuous at best.
What do you think? Is this too much Alien too soon or are you hungering for more before you've even seen the movie?
