New Batman v Superman image hints at eventual arrival of Darkseid

A new photo from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has surfaced that points the way toward a confrontation with the DC Universe's ultimate villain.

The photo in question appears in the new issue of Empire (via Collider), and it shows Batman (Ben Affleck) gazing out across a devastated cityspace of some kind -- with the Omega symbol, the calling card of Darkseid, unmistakably carved into the blasted ground in front of the Dark Knight.

The betting money says that Darkseid will be the nemesis that Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and the rest of the gang face in the two upcoming Justice League movies -- and it appears that director Zack Snyder is laying the groundwork for that battle in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The picture also seems to be from the same sequence seen in trailers in which Batman is fighting an army of some kind in a dusty, post-apocalyptic setting, where the minions of Darkseid, known as parademons, are also seen zipping through the sky. The scene has been confirmed as a nightmare that Bruce Wayne has, "almost a vision of the future," costume designer Michael Wilkinson recently said an interview with Omelette (via Comic Book Movie).

The question is, will the Caped Crusader's nightmare vision be our sole glimpse of Darkseid in Batman v Superman, or will the ruler of Apokolips make an actual physical appearance in the movie as well before coming back in a big way in Justice League 1 & 2?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25 -- exactly two months from now -- while the Justice League double-header is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2017, and June 14, 2019.
