Fans of all things supernatural got their first "look" today at Netflix's upcoming dark and spooky take on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, when a 10-second teaser was tweeted out by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the show's executive producer. We suspect that it's no coincidence that Sabrina's social media accounts were activated, and the teaser was shared today, on Friday the 13th. It's already looking creepier over at Netflix than Melissa Joan Hart's Sabrina.
The teaser below definitely seems to fall a bit closer to the films the show's creators have said they are emulating (Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist) than to, say, Harry Potter or Bewitched. And fans of Stranger Things should feel comfortable in the seeming carve-out in the Upside Down in between those worlds. (Or, if anyone remembers the early 1980s' Disney-makes-an-actual-horror-movie-for-kids film, The Watcher in the Woods, we bet it lands squarely there.) But don't take our word for it:
The teaser caps a week of small surprises for Sabrina fans, as two days ago the first poster for the series was revealed, with a nice cartoonish silhouette of a cat we presume to be Salem superimposed under Sabrina's bob haircut.
And, as today went on, the reveals were piling up like Halloween candy, with series star Kiernan Shipka featured in a short vid on the @Sabrinanetflix account exclaiming "Welcome to our coven," in an on-set video.
So enjoy, fans of witches and half-witches. More will be revealed soon enough, as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2018.
