Stephen King talks the legacy of The Gunslinger in new Dark Tower featurette

To whet our appetite for its new Stephen King adaptation, Sony Pictures has released a first-look sneak peek at The Dark Tower, based on the master of horror’s acclaimed book series.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, A Royal Affair) from a script by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner, and Anders Thomas Jensen and Nikolaj Arcel, the movie stars Idris Elba in the role of Roland Deschain, The Gunslinger (who is the last of an order of knights), and Matthew McConaughey as Walter O’Dim, aka Randall Flagg, aka The Man in Black.

The movie stars Tom Taylor as young hero Jake Chambers, Abbey Lee as Tirana and Fran Kranz as Pimli, Randall Flagg’s right-hand man. Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick and Claudia Kim also star.

The featurette touches on the legacy of Idris Elba’s Gunslinger, as well his eternal conflict with Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black. It also features interviews with Elba, McConaughey and Stephen King and boasts some exciting new footage from the movie. There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.
