The fifth season of Game of Thrones is heading to DVD and Blu-ray on March 15, just in time to catch up on all the wild action in the Seven Kingdoms before the new season premieres on April 24. As part of the many bonus features included in the deluxe release, HBO is including 15 "Histories and Lore" animated shorts to fill in the legends and backstories of the pivotal events that laid the foundation for the events in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels and the TV adaptation we know and love.

The first video chronicles the violent downfall of House Targaryen and the Mad King Aerys II, narrated by Ser Barristan Selmy (Ian McElhinney) as he recalls the tragic events leading up to Prince Rhaegar's army was crushed in Robert's Rebellion. The second short is distinctly narrated by the Faceless Man of Bravos himself, Jaqen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) and explains the religious aspects of the Many-Faced God of the House of Black and White and how this deity is accepted and worshipped in the various lands of the realm, from the Merlin King to the Lion of Night to the Lord of Light. He is all of them, and none of them.

Bone up on your Game of Thrones historical perspectives and tell us what you're most excited for when the new season swings into action.
