The network took its sweet time, but Spike has finally announced when we’ll return to the Four Lands with Season 2 of The Shannara Chronicles, and released the first trailer and a batch of images.
The second season of the high fantasy series based on Terry Brooks’ best-selling book series will return to our TV screens on October 11. Are we there yet?
If you’re going, “But wait a minute, wasn’t The Shannara Chronicles originally on MTV?”, yep, you're right. The first season debuted on MTV back in 2016 but has since moved to Spike (which airs The Mist), where the new 10-episode season will unfold.
Season 2 will see the return of Austin Butler as Wil, Ivana Baquero as Eretria, Manu Bennett as Allanon, Aaron Jakubenko as Ander, and Marcus Vanco as Bandon. New players this season include Vanessa Morgan as Lyria, Malese Jow as Mareth, Gentry White as Garet, Caroline Chikezie as Queen Tamlin, and Desmond Chiam as General Riga.
Although Wil says in the trailer: “I’m not interested in saving the world anymore,” you can bet your magic-wielding half-elf butt he will get back into the fight for the Four Lands, after a new evil called The Crimson is unleashed. Oh, and there's only one weapon that can defeat them: the Sword of Shannara. Guess who's going to be gifted the weapon?
Here's the official Season 2 synopsis:
Season two takes place one year after the events of last season. The Four Lands are in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.
